Result 1-4
Outstandingly professional performance on Saturday on a tough pitch in windy conditions. Even though the surface was a mess, we always tried our best to play the ball on the deck and put together some really nice moves all over the park. Yet when we needed to, we used the long ball effectively and efficiently, winning everything in the air, pouncing on the second ball and holding it up well before linking up with our wingers. The Jackson brothers again led by example and thoroughly deserved their goals for all the hard work they put in. J Jackson's chip needs a special mention. Quite simply breathtaking. Greeno, Spinksy and Walks all enjoyed success down the flanks and looked a constant threat all day, taking up some great positions and delivering plenty of tasty crosses. In the centre of midfield, Dolly worked his socks off and did all the donkey work superbly. JJ had his best game in weeks. Not only good in possession and delivery but winning pretty much every header and tackle asked of him. JT was as ever the rock at the back and as he so often does, got us off to a great start with a commanding header. Humph brought his usual clam and experience to what could have been an ill-tempered affair and as always used the ball sensibly and effectively. Jon Jenkins just got physically assaulted all afternoon but pulled off a couple a great saves and that was perhaps the bravest intervening header I've ever seen from a keeper. Bravo Jon. But the player everyone loves to hate was this week's Man of the Match. George, incredibly not hungover for once, put in a brilliant performance at right back. Used the ball well, was brilliant in the air and looked super-fit charging back and fourth down the right all afternoon.
