Old Fentonians who? (Old Carthusians 8 (Manchonians 5) – Old Wellingtonians 0)

Make no mistake about it Wellington are no mugs and they are in fact the last side to topple this mighty outfit in the league, this really puts the result into perspective.

The first half was a pretty one sided encounter and while we went in at the break only 1-0 it could have quite easily been 5, with Wellington barely threatening the OC penalty area. Rocky was the clear standout performer of the first half putting in some serious effort and probably covering more ground then anyone on the pitch, the standout moment of the first half was a sprayed ball right across the pitch timed to absolute perfection.

At half time it really was looking like the next goal would be crucial as Wellington are the sort of side that could snatch a lucky goal at any moment, however, those dreams were soon dashed as Manches was slipped in to score with less than a minute on the clock in the second half. From then on out some sublime football was played and I can genuinely say that I would have payed to watch this, 1-2’s, back heels, ridiculous touches, solid finishing, commanding defending, confident ball play especially from Wilko and CB; it was just a joy to watch from my arm chair position as a goalkeeper.

Manches bagged the casual 5 to comfortably surpass Fenton’s league tally for the season way before Christmas and with some potentially lucrative cup games in the pipeline who knows the season record might even be smashed before Christmas? A special mention should go to Spinksy who put in a real shift out of position at left back and did not look out of place all match and offered a great outlet for the defence down the left wing. The rest of the back 4 were solid as ever and did not let Wellington have 1 shot on target all match. Greeno, Dolly and Mosser dominated the midfield and were particularly impressive in the air against some big kicking and a couple of big rugby lads patrolling the middle of the park. Danny and Rob provided moments of brilliance with some breathtaking dribbling.

8-0 really was a fair reflection and alongside some exceptional individual performances it really was a world class team performance and probably the best I have seen in my 3 years with the 3’s.
But for me despite the 5 goals of Manches the man of the match for this week has to go to our captain Rocky who not only put in a Rooney esque shift this week (also managed to actually get himself on the score sheet) also provided moments of brilliance with his vision and passing........ After such a solid performance a 3’s night out is surely looming on the horizon??

The next 3’s night out??

No surprises surrounding much of the pre game chat this week, following on from a tester of what the safari has to offer by certain members of the OC football club the appetites were wetted.

“You will be hosting 12 excitable ladies during this Saturday's Mega Safari and they are looking for a fine evening of food and exquisite chat.......”

Jenkins, Walker, Buck along with another, delivered through 3 superb servings of great lids, great chat and great desire (some had more desire for an early bath than others).

Starter: Anti-pasti selection served with smashed China and spilt beer ( Jenkins“usually such safe hands” and Walker’s pre-match nerves led to them dropping plates and beer in the food in a nervous panic)

After party antics: 2 pulls (Walker, Jenkins), 0 family threesomes (last minute failure in taxi)

Main Course: Thai Green Curry with rice. One of the birds is vegetarian we work this out as they walk in the door, massive rush to scoop chicken bits out of curry, a few were missed, 1 bird down and only 3 to focus on 100% success.

After party antics: 3 pulls (Buck, Jenkins, Other lad), 2 early baths (Buck and other lad)

Desert: Chocolate brownies. The best set of girls for chat and the rest, obviously the after antics are slightly depressed here......

After party antics: 1 pull (Walker)

Other antics: Walker about 4 pulls and 1 failure of a date

Not a bad return for a taster night........

Officially the most “single and proud” team in the league are already lining up a potential Battersea/Clapham Safari, some however (JCB), completely missed the concept and while the prospect of a blokes only safari composed of the entire 3’s squad sounds delightful it is not the reason why we are a singles team!
